Service Learning UNCG Campus Recreation

I'm an AmeriCorps Alum!

I' enjoy volunteering which provides me with the opportunity to help others. Volunteering allows me to connect with individuals from all across the world and here in my hometown. I believe it can add a sense of humility and respect for others. I take pride in my ability to work with diverse cultures, populations, and settings. I am proud to be an AmeriCorps Alum and continue to see Martin Luther King Jr Day as a day ON! I have several different areas where I volunteer and each adds memories and experiences that I carry over into my day to day thoughts and experiences.

Philanthropy

Participating in AmeriCorps 2009-2010 took me to Chicago, IL to prevent obesity among individuals living in food deserts with limited access to recreational parks or facilities. I immersed myself in the surroundings and learned the city quickly. I became a healthy lifestyles coach with the opportunity to change lives of everyone through physical fitness, health education, breastfeeding education, lead education, chronic disease management and linking patients back to care.

I was chosen to lead the National Martin Luther King Jr. National Day of service which helped 158 youth participants to learn about physical fitness and healthy choices. I recruited over 52 volunteers and coordinated with State Representative LaShawn K. Ford, church groups, after school programs, the Chicago Bulls, and Willie Williams.

As a fitness instructor, I am happy to bring my passion and dedication to health and wellness to everyone. As an instructor participating in the service learning project for UNCG Campus Recreation center, I was allowed to use my skills and expertise to bring physical fitness to a variety of Guilford County Schools. These schools are located in High Point and Greensboro, North Carolina and range from low income to charter schools.

Routines included: Children's Yoga, Boot Camp, Heart Health Aerobics and Dance.

I'm a firm believer that we can make anything happen! Friends of mine are also into changing the world through physical fitness. Please take a moment to visit their sites:
